The Making of Modern France (MLF1017)

15 credits

This team-taught module offers a wide-ranging social and political history of the French state from the medieval period onwards. Weekly lectures will focus on famous figures and events in French history – from Joan of Arc and Louis XIV to the French Revolution and the German Occupation – whilst in seminars you will use a variety of sources from literary and visual culture in order to explore these themes further. This module is also open to students studying degrees outside of French, and will therefore be taught in English.
